Planned Giving

By making a bequest or other estate gift to Connected Horse, you will support our work to bring healing and hope to families facing dementia, through the human-horse bond. Please see below for language to include Connected Horse in your will or in a codicil.

We encourage you to speak to a professional estate planning advisor who is experienced in the establishment of charitable gifts. Your advisor will be able to help you identify ways to structure your estate plans to provide tax benefits, as well as help families facing dementia.

We would be pleased to learn about your plans, and discuss the programs you are interested in supporting through your gifts. All information discussed is confidential. Please contact us at (415) 377-0934 or support@connectedhorse.org. Thank you.

Your Charitable Bequest

Your charitable bequest will help ensure Connected Horse’s ability to provide help and hope to families facing dementia through our groundbreaking equine-guided program, far into the future.

As you may know, it is not necessary to have your will or living trust revised to leave Connected Horse a bequest in your estate plans. A codicil, which contains the paragraph you’d like to implement, may be drawn up, notarized, and attached to your existing estate document(s). Should you ever revise your existing estate document(s) you can incorporate the codicil language at that point.

There are four types of bequests for you to consider:

  • Percentage is the most flexible because it allows your gift to appreciate in your will no matter what asset is used.
  • Specific bequest of an asset such as a retirement plan results in no income taxes paid on the plan by your estate.
  • Residual bequests are often made after remembering relatives and friends, and usually in combination with a percentage bequest.
  • Contingent bequest.

When you place any of the first three types of bequest (percentage, specific, residual) in your will or living trust and notify Connected Horse, we will thank you with special recognition and benefits. While we appreciate being remembered with a contingent bequest, we are sorry but donors of contingent bequests are not eligible for special recognition.
